Manpower minister, envoy explore labor cooperation in Laos

Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah and Indonesian Ambassador to Laos Grata Endah Werdaningtyas explored cooperation in the field of labor between Indonesia and Laos during a meeting on Thursday (February 15) evening.

“There are many opportunities for cooperation in the field of training and apprenticeship to improve the quality and competitiveness of workers in both countries,” Fauziyah noted in the ministry’s statement received here on Friday.

According to the minister, labor cooperation between Indonesia and Laos can be realized in the form of sharing best practices in training and internship.

She highlighted that the two countries can develop joint training programs that are relevant to the needs of the future labor market, the exchange of trainers and instructors, and the exchange of employment information and data.

The collaboration will also provide benefits in various aspects, including improving labor quality and competitiveness, meeting the needs of workers in priority sectors, and strengthening bilateral relations.

“We will discuss the cooperation opportunities in more detail, including about the possibility of developing joint training programs and skilled labor exchanges,” Fauziyah remarked.

Through the exploration of cooperation, the minister is keen to emphasize the importance of cooperation between Indonesia and Laos to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.

In addition to exploring cooperation, Minister Fauziyah also discussed important issues in labor, needs of labor in the era of digitalization, green transition, and economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Indonesia’s economic relations with Laos have not developed as much as expected.

However, along with the global economic development and the COVID-19 pandemic, economic relations between the two countries have begun to improve.

Meanwhile, several Indonesian business players have started to explore new market opportunities in Laos.
